1) SmartNotebook
NOTE: Choose [LS] - Morning Session or [MS] - Afternoon session  ----- We are planning to have Howard Gunther (a highly recommended SmartBoard instructor from ACES) lead workshops in SmartNotebook. Though we are just beginning to explore the advantages of SmartBoards in classrooms, we are all able to use the powerfully engaging interactive tools found in SmartNotebook. Howard will lead a Lower-School session in the morning and a Middle-School session in the afternoon which will give participants the chance to create a SmartNotebook lesson (think PowerPoint or Keynote) packed with interactive tools which you can use with or without an actual SmartBoard.

2) Better Blogging
More than a third (22 of 58!) of our faculty web pages have been moved to Edublogs.  The Perrine Library web page has been created using Edublogs, along with lots of Lower School classrooms and a few Middle School classrooms. Some advantages of a blog include two-way communication with students and parents, subscriptions by email for readers, ease in updating from any place that you have online access, ease in adding photos or updating homework assignments,  Come away from this workshop with an up-and-running blog (and continuing support).

3) Quick Video
We have dozens of Flip-style video cameras which allow teachers and students to capture voice and video, trim out the junk, and post it to the web, quickly and easily. Grab a camera, and come ready to record voice and audio -- easy as 1-2-3.

4) Google Apps -
for Education
Google offers an online set of tools which allow you to create, edit, share, and print virtually any kind of document on any computer connected to the web. If you have ever been frustrated because you didn’t have the proper version of Word, or the version of Excel you used at work didn’t match your version at home, Google Apps for Education has an answer you should check out. If you have ever wanted to work on a document (or group of documents) with your class and not worry about what kind of computer the kids have at home, in the lab, or wherever they might need to get at that document, Google Apps for Education has a solution. If you are wondering how you can easily access a variety of tools with just one logon, Google Apps for Education has an idea. Check it out.

5) Lessons with
                Laptops
We are experimenting with a laptop cart in the Middle School. It currently resides in the 6th Grade Science room. Though it is not as portable as you might think a “cart” should be, it could be moved anywhere on the MS hallway. If you are interested in a hands-on presentation to experience the benefits of bringing a class to the science room (or bringing the cart to one of the rooms nearby) come to this workshop!

 Learning

6) Voice Thread
Voice Thread allows you to collect a group of images, put them in a meaningful order, attach voice comments to them, and then allows peers (classmates, teachers, etc. to do the same). John Turner described a transformation which took place because of Voice Thread that any teacher would want to hear more about. Kids in his class had been reading and reporting on a book similarly for years. Someone told him to try VoiceThread. Something clicked. He tried it and the kids, the lesson, the experience was transformed. The kids were now revisiting aspects of the book, the assignment, and the process that had not been nearly as available as before. Come see why teachers and students love it. Post pictures, add a voice comment, and thread these together in a way that proves a picture is worth 1000 words and then some.

7) Too Many Tools -
   Too Little Time
CAIS Technology Workshops have regularly shared  a number of these great tools.  This will  be another opportunity to see them first-hand, ask questions, and try them out.  We’ll also cover  easy ways to keep track of all the great sites and resources as you go!  Some of the sites we’ll  cover as many of these as we can, as well as others people bring to the workshop. (Prezi, Diigo,  Evernote, Pencil, Scratch, Sketchup, OCR)

8)  Gathering,
     Organizing, and
     Sharing Digital
                    “Stuff”
You have created, collected, saved and stuffed hundreds (maybe thousands) of digital “stuff” (Word docs, photos, audio files, email attachments, PDFs, etc, etc, etc) packing them into your computer, but you have never had time to really get it organized.  This workshop will lead you through a few tried and true methods for saving, storing, sharing and organizing all those documents, photos, videos, websites, etc you have gathered.  You will also learn how to put the files you need in places so you can access them  from any computer connected to the Internet.  With this workshop, you can’t lose.
